Return in Kind receiving very kind reviews

book cover

After three novels written for young adults, Marlboro College writing professor Laura C. Stevenson has a new novel, Return In Kind (Separate Star) for adults of any age. Advance reviews have been very positive, including this one from Beth Kanell of Kingdom Books:

Stevenson's exploration of this landscape of hunger and heart is serenely paced and underlaid with a foundation of wisdom. In baring the framework built of loss and small acts of courage, Stevenson reveals how kindness and larger acts of courage take form in the soul and in community.

Also, Mark Roessler of the Valley Advocate reviews the book and offers a personal reflection of his time spent studying with Laura here at Marlboro:

The economy of words she had taught me to strive for was evident here. Characters and scenes fell into place: there were no superfluous sequences or unnecessary diversions. What had been an enjoyable, exciting read the first time through has become something deeper, more poignant and ripe for considered reflection.

Students Honored at American College Dance Festival

Dance professor Kristin Horrigan writes:andre and amity

During Valentine's Day weekend, eleven Marlboro students and I went to the American College Dance Festival New England Conference at Boston University, an event that was attended by students and faculty from 36 colleges and universities. Each institution had the opportunity to present two dances (choreographed by students, faculty, or guest artists, and performed by students) for adjudication by a panel of three professional choreographers. The adjudicators gave feedback about each dance to the choreographers and performers, and then they selected 11 of the 45 dances presented for re-presentation in a gala concert at the end of the conference.

Marlboro's dances -- a solo choreographed and performed by Amity Jones '10 and a duet choreographed by Andre Morgan '12 and performed by Amity and Andre (pictured here) -- were both selected for the gala. This was a huge honor for the students and also some wonderful recognition for the college, as Marlboro was the only college to be represented twice in the gala.
